This classic example of inner-city renewal and expansion was completed in 2001 and includes retail, food and residential functions plus an ultra-modern library.

As consumers become more demanding, a clear shift has been witnessed in the direction of recreational shopping. MAB Development has led the way in creating modern retail centres that combine multiple functions within a single unified concept. The Streekhof development in the Stede Broec neighbourhood of Bovenkarspel (located in the province of North Holland) is an excellent example of what can be achieved when specialised know how and rich experience are incorporated from the outset of a project.

The primary principle behind the extension of the existing shopping centre was to bring everything up to the very latest standards. This fresh new look & feel has succeeded in enhancing the pulling power of the Streekhof, which has quite a significant regional shopping function. Now the people of Stede Broec have far more opportunities to actually enjoy the shopping experience again.

But there is much more to the new Streekhof than retail outlets alone. In addition to some very nice apartments, MAB Development oversaw the creation of a modern library that is an integral part of the centre. Located directly at the entrance to the Streekhof, the building itself is a genuine eye catcher, with its open, transparent design and spectacular footbridges.

With impressive online facilities, the library is a fine spot to browse, literally and metaphorically. Moreover, it makes a statement of intent for the Streekhof as a whole: ‘This is a great place to visit’.
