MAB Development BV, Dura Vermeer Vastgoedontwikkeling BV and the municipality of Rotterdam are currently realising the new Parkboulevard project at the former rail yard on Vierhavenstraat in Rotterdam West. This will be a cluster of large-scale shopping facilities, offices and leisure spaces, plus a rooftop park.
Public Private Partnership
The development of Parkboulevard will take place in three phases: Bigshops, the head building and the tail building, and the entire site will be covered by a rooftop park. MAB and Dura Vermeer will develop and construct the buildings, while the city of Rotterdam realises the rooftop park. The development of Parkboulevard will begin with the Bigshops.
Bigshops Parkboulevard, a kilometre of shopping pleasure
Bigshops Parkboulevard will be a complex of large-scale shops for interior decoration and leisure pursuits, and a large supermarket. The project includes 25,000 m² of retail space and a parking garage for approximately 750 cars. Shops will include well-known chains such as Albert Heijn, Woonexpress, Toys XL, Blokker Tuin, Kwantum, Bruynzeel, Jysk, Xenos and Beter Bed, and the complex is due to open at the end of 2011.
Head and tail buildings
Parkboulevard Bigshops will be flanked by buildings on either side. The head building will be located on Marconiplein and will provide up to 25,000 m² of space for education institutes and offices, supplemented by approximately 500 m² of cafés and restaurants. The smaller-scale tail building on Hudsonplein will comprise approximately 5,000 m². While the development for the latter is still at a draft stage, the current plan is to create space for community activities here.
Rooftop park
In collaboration with MAB Development and Dura Vermeer, the city of Rotterdam will realise a beautiful rooftop park measuring eight hectares on top of the three buildings. Visitors will be able to enjoy a coffee here while gazing out over the whole city and harbour; its unusual location, scale and intended use will make this a unique phenomenon in the Netherlands.
