De Resident is a comprehensive redevelopment in The Hague’s Spui quarter that connects the city’s two faces: The historic centre with its low-rise buildings and the new business district near Central Station with its high-rise architecture.
De Resident is part of the huge New Centre plan aimed at strengthening The Hague's position as an international institutional and business centre. The area that houses the project has already been successfully remodelled into an exciting new quarter with a mix of professional, residential, shopping and cultural facilities.
De Resident is an international architectural accomplishment that was designed with great care and sensitivity. The style and quality of the public areas are therefore a key feature in a project that completely transformed this part of downtown The Hague.
A veritable city within a city, De Resident comprises four large high-rise towers (Castalia, Helicon, Muzentower and Zurich), residential blocks, retail functions and an intricate network of intimate squares and streets. Two pedestrian and cycle routes traverse the dwellings, offices and shops to intersect in the centre of De Resident, where a square is shaped in the form of a horseshoe.
Designed by various well-known architects such as Rob Krier and Adolfo Natalini, the De Resident complex is located beside the Central Station, near the Royal Library and the Dutch Ministries and MAB’s stunning Babylon building. All buildings are in harmony with the existing skyline as living, working and shopping come together in an elegantly compact and refined setting.
