This keynote inner-city redevelopment project was carried out in partnership with the city of Bergen op Zoom and includes shops, residences and parking spaces. It has formed a vital part of the upgrade of the entire city centre.
MAB Development drafted the master plan for De Parade in consultation with Bergen op Zoom council and the renowned architect Rob Krier as a key part of the regeneration of the south-eastern corner of the city centre. Largely built after World War II, this included part of the existing A1 shopping area that had been neglected to such an extent that it barely lived up to its name.
Major highlights of the De Parade project were a repositioning of existing popular shops, the renovation of St. Josephplein, and the creation of a new shopping axis linking the main shopping streets. It is this latter feature that provides for the name, ‘The Parade’. Parking capacity has also been significantly increased by the development.
De Parade is a high-quality development in terms of both functional interpretation (modernisation of shopping circuit, addition of parking and housing) and architectural aura. The architecture seamlessly integrates with the existing historic city centre thanks to the wide diversity of facades. Moreover, with the masterplan laying down the economic, urban development and financial conditions for further planning of this area, this MAB Development project will have an impact long into the future.
