The Rijnboog project sees MAB redeveloping a large part of post-war Arnhem on the periphery of the present inner city.
The movie A Bridge Too Far only hints at the devastation caused to Arnhem during World War II, and reconstruction occurred at a time when money and materials were scarce. The need for a fresh start has long been apparent in areas such as Rijnboog, a part of the city between Rijnkade, the new station and the historic city centre.
Arnhem council, MAB Development and the other commercial partners drew up the Arnhem Rijnboog Master Plan. Primarily based upon the reorganisation of public space, the new situation will see a combination of homes, offices and shops with unique leisure and cultural concepts. Each individual area will complement the other and play a dynamic role in tomorrow's Arnhem.
The master plan defines four districts: Coehoorn Noord, Coehoorn Zuid (art, homes & culture set in a park-like environment), Nieuwe Havenstraat (the link between the river and the city) and Nieuwstraat and surroundings (with homes and shops). Spanning some 20 years and three phases, the project is due for completion in 2022.
