MAB Development is planning to start work on the redevelopment of the Ringerscomplex and the Noorderarcade shopping centre (with IPMMC) on the site of the former Ringers factory in Alkmaar in mid-2012. Both projects will be part of the new Overstad neighbourhood of Alkmaar, a historic city some 40n km north-west of Amsterdam.

The development will comprise 37,000 m² of new shop space and 600 parking places. IPMMC will also upgrade the existing 18,000 m² Arcade shopping complex. This combination of redevelopment and new construction will do much to enhance the quality and versatility of Alkmaar’s city centre.

Transformation
In the coming years, Overstad will be transformed from an industrial terrain to an organic part of Alkmaar’s urban heart. The municipality will undertake the development of the area through the limited company Nieuwoverstad B.V., which it set up with four other market players. Several real estate owners are looking to realise their own plans for Overstad and will be invited to do so if they comply with the objectives of the municipality and Nieuwoverstad B.V.
