MAB announces a new step for the “grand arena” project: a sustainable development charter
Conscious that the environmental impact of a centre is not limited to its construction alone, but must be considered throughout its lifetime and operation, MAB Development is breaking new ground by integrating a Sustainable Development Charter applicable to all stores in the future “Grand Arena” centre currently being developed in Bordeaux Floirac. Action speaking louder than words, this charter illustrates the commitment of all players in the centre (developer, centre management and tenants) to unite their efforts with regard to the environment (ecologic, social and economic dimensions).
A genuine partnership between the developer, centre manager and tenants
The Sustainable Development Charter currently proposed for “Grand Arena” reflects the convergence of the sustainable development policies of the developer and the prospective tenants on the site. The Charter allies environmental ambitions to the stores’ technical and economic constraints in a balanced way to guarantee success and durability.
Appended to the leases signed by the tenants and grouped into twelve areas of application, the commitments cover all aspects of the centre’s life, from construction of the building to the supply of products, and from resource and waste management during the site’s operational activity to enhancing visitor awareness (good eco-responsible practice in lighting effects or packaging, supply and promote ethical manufactured merchandise, sustain human resources, stimulate and educate the visitors…).
This charter illustrates the ambition of MAB Development, which wishes, in addition to its role as a developer and builder, to incorporate its projects in an overall environmental policy.
Another important point is that compliance with these commitments and their effects will be easily measurable and quantifiable, thus making it possible to gauge the effectiveness of these initiatives and their follow-up.
Grand Arena, a project in which the keynote is sustainable development and urban integration
“Grand Arena”, a project developed by MAB Development in association with Nouvelles Fonctions Urbaines (NFU), brings together on the same site: Grand Arena La Salle, a 3,000 to 15,000 seated modular auditorium, and Grand Arena Village, an open-air shopping centre with 29,500 square meters of sales area, intended to be the main hub of activity in this new area of Floirac.
Located within Floirac’s “ZAC des Quais” mixed development zone and the EURATLANTIQUE National Interest Operation, the project is part of the policy of revitalization of the southern part of the urban area and the right bank of the Garonne desired by both the City and Bordeaux Urban Community (CUB).
In line with the policy followed by CUB, “Grand Arena” banks on integration in the existing urban environment. The implementing of the project is part of an overall policy of sustainable development.
Last September, Grand Arena Village thus received “NF Bâtiments Tertiaires – Démarche HQE” certification for high environmental quality after meeting three Very High Performance targets and six High Performance targets.
This certification concerns the eco-construction, eco-management, comfort and health performances of a construction operation. It identifies buildings whose environmental performances correspond to the best existing practices.
In addition to incorporation of the HQE© standards in the construction process, the project owner has endeavored to plan harmonious integration in the environment, whatever the angle of viewing and the distance of observation.
