MAB Development receives the ICSC European Shopping Centre Commendation
Today at the 35th International Council of Shopping Centre (ICSC) conference in Prague, MAB Development received the internationally renowned 2010 European Shopping Centre Commendation in the category ‘New Developments’ (retail projects over 40,001 square metres) for the shopping centre MyZeil in Frankfurt, Germany.
The commendation represents the shopping centre industry’s assessment of what constitutes ‘the best European centre of the year’. The commendation entry shows that it was successful in the majority of the project’s important aspects: its choice of site, planning, architecture, selection of tenants, sales results, acceptance by customers and financial returns.
The independent jury made up of real estate experts and industry journalists commended MyZeil for its innovative concept, its unique architecture and its urban development qualities.
‘A renowned commendation for a great project,’ said a pleased Michael L. Flesch, Managing Director of MAB Development Deutschland GmbH. ‘Our aim of establishing a new shopping dimension with MyZeil has been acknowledged and confirmed with this award. The combination of forward-looking architecture with multifaceted levels and a unique mix of retailers, in addition to the innovative store concepts of international top brands make the experience of the new MyZeil shopping and leisure world something special,’ said Flesch.
MyZeil
MyZeil is the new shopping centre at the heart of Frankfurt, situated directly on the Zeil – one of Germany’s most frequented and most profitable shopping streets in terms of sales. MyZeil is an integrated part of the PalaisQuartier, one of Europe’s most important inner city projects. Besides the shopping centre, this new development ensemble comprises the Thurn und Taxis Palais that was rebuilt to resemble its historic original, as well as an office and hotel tower. The latter was leased by the Arab hotel group Jumeirah, which also operates the world-famous seven-star hotel Burj Al Arab in Dubai. Click here to go to the projectpage of MyZeil.
Background to ICSC European Shopping Centre Awards
Every year since 1975, the ICSC European Shopping Centre Awards have been the supreme awards in European retail property, granted for both new and refurbished or extended projects. The ICSC European Shopping Centre Awards are not an award for design, although design is one of the judging criteria, but a statement of the overall excellence of the project, taking into consideration, amongst others, the retail mix, commercial performance, customer services, and the centre’s successful integration into the surrounding infrastructure. This year 19 centres from eight European countries have made it onto the shortlist of finalists.
