MAB Development and City of Haarlem open Raaks car park
The Raaks parking garage in the centre of Haarlem was officially opened on 26 May by (former) aldermen Chris van Velzen and Cees van Boven. The opening was a major milestone in a project designed to increase the available parking spaces in the popular shopping city of Haarlem.
Owned by the municipality, the underground Raaks garage contains 1,000 public parking spaces that are available 24 hours a day. There are also 11 spaces and a lift for disabled people in the garage, which is spread across three floor levels.
The Raaks garage is part of the Raaks inner-city development project, which is creating new and renovated buildings for living, shopping, working, parking and recreation. Three apartment buildings (offering a total of 66 apartments) have already been delivered and sold (in 2008). The 50 apartments in the Zuiderstraat block have been sold to investor Ymere while just a few of the 68 apartments in the Raakshof are still available. These apartments are under development.
The Raaks project also includes: A total of 1,200 underground parking spaces; around 8,500 m² of shops and catering facilities (1,500 m² to the AH supermarket chain and liquor store Gall&Gall, 1,600 m² to electronics store De Block and 200 m² to the bookshop Bruna); the Minerva theatre with 1,450 seats; a child care centre and an office of 10,000 m² for the Haarlem municipality, including a new public hall with work spaces for most of the city’s employees.
