DURA and MAB open Bigshops Parkboulevard (Rotterdam)

Dura Vermeer Vastgoed and MAB Development Nederland celebrated the opening of the Bigshops Parkboulevard project in Rotterdam West on 11-11-11. Bigshops Parkboulevard provides 25,000 m² of retail space and is the first element in the Dakpark Rotterdam project that the Municipality of Rotterdam and Dura Vermeer Vastgoed BV have developed jointly. Construction work on Parkboulevard started in September 2009.

Bigshops Parkboulevard

Bigshops Parkboulevard is ‘a kilometre of retail enjoyment’ located at Vierhavensstraat in Rotterdam. The Bigshops Parkboulevard formula promises visitors an extensive choice of large stores in the home & furniture and leisure sectors, plus a large supermarket. The plan also includes a car park with space for 750 vehicles. Of the 25,000m² of retail space, 95% has already been let to branches of well-known high-street names, including Albert Heijn, Etos, Gall&Gall, Woonexpress, Slaapgenoten, Toys XL, Blokker Tuin, Bedden Reus, Kwantum, Jysk, Xenos, Bruynzeel Keukens, Keuken Kampioen, Pets Place, Action, Piet Kerkhof, Concord Matrassen & Boxsprings, Beter Bed and Brugman Keukens & Badkamers. Dura Vermeer Bouw Rotterdam BV was responsible for the construction of Bigshops Parkboulevard. Butzelaar van Son Architects are responsible for the design of Bigshops. Opening celebrations
The official opening of Bigshops Parkboulevard commenced at 6.30 pm on 11-11-11. Jörgen Raymann and Ralf Mackenbach added their celebrity presence to the opening festivities. Stalls selling soup, mulled wine, waffles and other tasty winter fare were to be found over the full length of Vierhavensstraat. In addition there were various activities, such as a lantern procession and a shopping trolley race, and the stores had many attractive special offers to mark the opening.

Dakpark Rotterdam
Parkboulevard also marks the transformation of the former marshalling yard in Delfshaven into a new urban area where residents of Rotterdam and their guests can work, shop and relax in a high-quality and attractive environment. The Municipality of Rotterdam is constructing a unique park covering 8 hectares on the roof of the multifunctional Bigshops Parkboulevard building under the name Dakpark Rotterdam (Rotterdam Roof Park).
Work on the park started last summer. Dakpark Rotterdam is scheduled to be ready in early 2013. The Roof Park is one of the projects of Stadshavens Rotterdam.
